5 Questions to Ask Before Choosing a Chiropractor

If you’ve been dealing with joint pain, it’s time that you see a chiropractor to find relief and get back to living a healthy life. It’s crucial that you take the time to find a chiropractor that you trust and are comfortable with.
After asking your general practitioner if he or she can recommend any chiropractors as well as your family and friends, narrow it down to a few chiropractors. Call their offices and find out if they would be willing to sit down and have a personal consultation with you.

Be sure to ask the following questions to determine whether the chiropractor is qualified and will be able to treat your pain.

1. What kind of education do you have?
The first thing you’ll want to know about your chiropractor is if he or she went through the proper schooling and obtained the necessary degrees. After attending a minimum of four years of undergraduate school and four to five years at a chiropractic college program, the chiropractor is required to complete a clinic internship. After completion, the chiropractor will obtain their license. Always make sure that the chiropractor’s license is up-to-date.

2. How many years of experience do you have?
Of course, education is important, but you also want your chiropractor to have real, hands-on experience working with patients. Find out how many years he or she has been working in an office or clinic and how many patients he or she has treated. Make sure it’s several years and a number of patients that you’re comfortable with.

3. What techniques and tools do you use?
Chiropractors use various types of techniques to manage their patients’ pain. Some prefer to use forceful motions with their hands, while others opt to use their hands to apply pressure. Chiropractors may also use tools to help with manipulation. Ask about the tools and find out how they work.

4. How would you treat my injury?
Don’t hesitate to ask the chiropractor about your injury. Find out the treatment plan he or she would create and what methods would be utilized to help you feel better. You’ll want to know what kind of treatment to expect so you don’t go into your first appointment unprepared.

5. How many other patients with this injury have you treated?
By learning about how many other patients your chiropractor has treated with the same injury or symptoms, you can determine how much experience he or she has in this specific area. Be sure to find out about the other patients’ recovery and healing time so you know what to expect.

Taking the time to learn about a chiropractor and his or her qualifications before you choose the right one for you will pay off in the long run. You want to be sure that you’re working with someone you trust and who will provide you with quality treatment so you can feel better soon.
